About I-CAN

The Immigrant Collaboration Alliance Network (I-CAN) is a federally incorporated non-profit organization in Canada (Corporation No. 17598360). We advocate on behalf of immigrant communities facing policy inconsistencies in Canada’s immigration system. Our specific areas of focus may evolve over time as community needs and policy landscapes change.

I-CAN is not a registered charity, not a legal firm, and does not provide legal advice. Our activities include community advocacy, education, and coordinated communication with elected officials and policymakers.

By becoming a member and using our platform, you agree to these Terms of Membership. If you do not agree, please do not register.

02

Membership

An I-CAN membership gives you access to:

  • The member portal, including news posts, policy briefings, and educational materials
  • Surveys and votes on I-CAN’s strategy and actions
  • Payment history and invoices
  • Direct communication channels with the I-CAN team

Membership is personal and non-transferable. You may not share your login credentials or allow others to access the portal using your account.

I-CAN reserves the right to suspend or terminate a membership — with or without refund — if a member violates these terms, engages in harassment, or acts in a manner inconsistent with the organization’s values.

Eligibility: Membership is open to any individual who supports I-CAN’s mission. You must be at least 18 years old to register.
03

Payment & Billing

The current membership fee is $39.00 CAD per month. This fee is subject to change with 30 days’ notice to existing members.

Payments are processed securely by Stripe, a third-party payment processor. I-CAN does not store your payment card details. By completing registration, you authorize Stripe to charge your payment method on a recurring monthly basis.

Your first charge occurs at the time of registration. Subsequent charges occur on the same calendar day each month (or the nearest valid date). If a payment fails, Stripe will retry the charge automatically. After repeated failures, your membership may be suspended until payment is resolved.

All amounts are in Canadian dollars (CAD) and include applicable taxes where required by law. Stripe will issue a receipt to your registered email address after each successful payment.

04

Cancellation & Refunds

You may cancel your membership at any time through the Billing & Invoices section of your personal member area on the website.

Upon cancellation: Your access to the member portal continues until the end of your current billing period. No partial refunds are issued for unused days in a billing period. After expiry, your account is downgraded and you lose access to member-only content.

Refunds: I-CAN does not generally offer refunds for completed billing periods. If you believe a charge was made in error, contact us within 30 days of the charge and we will review your case.

Your payment history remains accessible even after cancellation. You may rejoin at any time by returning to the registration page.

05

Member Conduct

I-CAN is a community built on shared purpose and mutual respect. By becoming a member, you agree to:

  • Treat other members, volunteers, and staff with respect and dignity
  • Not post or share content that is harassing, discriminatory, defamatory, or illegal
  • Not impersonate any person or organization, including elected officials or I-CAN staff
  • Not use the platform to promote commercial products or services unrelated to I-CAN’s mission
  • Not attempt to access, interfere with, or disrupt the platform’s systems or data

Violations may result in immediate account suspension or termination at I-CAN’s discretion.

06

Content & Votes

News posts, policy briefings, and educational materials published on the member portal are the property of I-CAN. Members may use this content for personal reference but may not republish or distribute it without permission.

Surveys and votes are used to guide I-CAN’s strategy and actions. Votes are advisory — the I-CAN team retains final discretion over organizational decisions, but we are committed to acting in the spirit of the community’s expressed preferences.

Each member receives one vote per survey. Member votes collectively carry 50% weight in I-CAN’s decision-making process. The remaining 50% is held by I-CAN’s board and operational staff, who balance member input with organizational strategy, legal considerations, and resource constraints. I-CAN reserves the right to implement, modify, or decline to act on any survey result. Votes are anonymous from other members but recorded by I-CAN for integrity purposes. I-CAN does not sell or share voting data with third parties.

07

Privacy & Data

I-CAN collects the following personal information at registration: name, email address, phone number (optional), city and province, and occupation (optional). We also collect data generated by your use of the platform, including login events, articles read, and votes cast.

How we use your data:

  • To provide and maintain your membership access
  • To send you news, survey notifications, and billing receipts
  • To understand the makeup of our community for advocacy purposes (in aggregate)
  • To comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your data. We do not share your personal information with third parties except as necessary to operate the platform (Supabase for authentication and data storage, Stripe for payments, Resend for email delivery).

You may request a copy of your data or request deletion of your account at any time by emailing contact@i-can.info.

Data is stored on servers located in Canada and/or the United States. I-CAN complies with applicable Canadian privacy laws including PIPEDA.

08

I-CAN makes no guarantees about the outcome of its advocacy efforts, the accuracy of government information, or the results of any action taken based on our materials. Members engage in advocacy activities entirely at their own discretion.

Changes to These Terms

Continued use of the platform after the effective date of updated terms constitutes acceptance of those terms. If you do not agree to the updated terms, you may cancel your membership before the effective date.

The current version of these terms is always available at i-can.info/terms. The effective date and last-updated date at the top of this page indicate when the most recent changes were made.
